It’s a New Day

Today as I heard the verdict

The verdict of George Floyd’s case

I saw a sea of faces - Trayvon, Breonna, Rodney,

Ahmaud, Abner, Emit, Daunte...and so many more!

Today as I heard the verdict

The verdict of George Floyd’s case

I say that society was being forced to get ‘it’

Get the fact the Black Lives Do Matter too

Get the fact that there needs to be changes -

police reforms.

Today as I heard the verdict

The verdict of George Floyd’s case

I shed tears for George, tears of relief, tears of

disappointment, tears of optimism, tears of hope

Today I just cried out!

Today as I heard the verdict

The verdict of George Floyd’s case

I realized that unlike him “I can breathe”

I realized that “Silence is not an Option”

I realized that we must still “dream”

Today as I heard the verdict

The verdict of George Floyd’s case

I saw that it is a new day...for sure

The day when Black Lives and Voices Matter Once

More.

It’s a Racist World…Treat it like a Cancer

So for those of us who keep pushing our heads under the sand and stay in denial or try to justify it away....here we have it!  Yet another world stage confirmation...we live in a racist world.

Listen to the Black Brits and the Black Americans...”he/she who feels it, knows it!”

Our Caribbean counterparts, Jamaicans in particular may not be able to identify fully to this depth of prejudice and human demonization based on our melanin: but it is akin to the class and status prejudices that are rampant in our region and society.  So we sometimes feel we are more tolerant and able to navigate/circumvent the ills of racism, but just like, sin is sin...prejudice is prejudice, so let’s exercise some empathy and understanding when others suffer at the prejudices of others.

Let us pull our heads out of the sand and call it what it is...become aware,  and as with Nanny of the Maroons, MLK, Rosa Parks and today Prince Harry let’s rise above it without counting the cost - #BeHIP!

HUMBLE yourself - should we hate? Heck no, but we shouldn’t suffer in silence either!  Like cancer, systemic racism is difficult to eradicate, if at all, but with proper diagnosis, treatments, awareness and follow-up procedures we can make a difference, regardless how small!

Be INTENTIONAL - should we turn a blind eye of acceptance?

Let’s forget about ourselves for a moment, think of the next generations -  our children, grand and great grand children. Think of what we can do to help treat the cancer so when they have to report to duty, we would have started a process for them to continue. #SilenceIsNotAnOption

Be PREPARED - Yes we can!

Follow the process - acceptance, diagnosis, treatment, care!  Where on the spectrum do we fit, what do we have to offer, how can we keep hope, awareness and the tools to combat injustice alive?  Knowing that  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me;”and knowing that I want leave this world a better place than I found it - I speak out, I write out, I serve and I love!

Love conquers ALL - Kill ‘em wid Love!!

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We may not be able to change the world (in this lifetime) but we sure can change mindsets, tolerance levels and ignorance, one person at a time!

Let’s work within our circle of influence, wherever that may be - home, school, church, or play (virtually or in-person)...

Our actions will start a ripple effect!

Let’s treat this cancer...while living, loving and laughing!😊

A Bag ‘O’ Love

The Best Valentine’s Gift Ever

4827B2CD-8C46-4808-A8CD-2A30FFB818FF.jpeg

My Valentine’s weekend is off to a great start and it can only get better.  So, humbly I had been intentional in preparing for this day!   Another day of giving, another day of being HIP!  #BeHIP

Yes it was a gift of ‘giving’, a gift of being ‘intentional’ a gift of service.

I learned long ago that  I cannot save the world, so I decided early to work within my circle of influence - and trust the power of the ‘ripple effect’ in every action executed. One day at a time, reaching one need at a time, is all I’m asking of you Dear Lord.

So as I walk daily, I see them, I hear them, I feel them and so in my own simple modest way, I thought I’d bless them with a ‘bag ‘o’ love ❤️ ‘ for Valentines.

Mask + Sanitizer + box of chocolate + snack bars + a hot breakfast sandwich + a $5 bill + a note of encouragement and a Bible verse = Making someone’s day!

Lord, but for your Grace that could so be me!  Help me to continue to see through the circumstances and state,  and see the heart, the soul, the eyes of appreciation and hope!

May the small gestures of love and service, grow into large blessings for each life touched, each mouth fed, each heart that cares!

Happy Valentine’s Day (weekend) to all, who regardless of status or circumstance are made homeless even for a night!  Be strong in the Lord and in his might ‘cause Joy will come in the morning.  You may not know the way, or even how to pray but we got you...we’ll interceded on your behalf because at the end of the day...it’s all love, even a little bag ‘o’ love! ❤️

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭31:24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

HUMBLE

As she called to ask for some advice, she posited...’I just love your humbilty.’ Taken off guard I blushingly said ‘thank you’!  Then I wondered, where did that come from...did she just read my book - Living a HIP Life, Humble, Intentional, Prepared! Hmmmmm🤔

Once we finished sharing ideas and I was able to give some direction, I came back to thinking about humility, what it meant and how it was manifested!

Humility is about being:

  • Vulnerable

  • Transparent

  • Able to admit our fragility

  • Able to go inward and self reflect

Being humble then is about being self aware, the American-Webster Dictionary explained it as this “Having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s own importance, not proud or haughty; not arrogant or assertive..”

When we ‘are,’ we ‘allow!’

When we are welcoming, vulnerable and transparent, we allow others into our ‘space.’  Not defined by status and accolades - we also open ourselves to loving, listening, serving, and supporting!

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭NIV
